Science Comes to Town

We are pleased to announce that Kaunas has become one of four European cities invited to implement the EU project Science Comes to Town 2027. Aarhus (Denmark), Genoa (Italy) and Oeiras (Portugal) will also invite you to learn more with us. In 2027, science will reign supreme in these cities – diverse, interesting, unexpected and involving everyone, from the smallest to the largest. A multitude of science popularization events and activities will be held here, the aim of which is to bring knowledge closer to people, show its importance in everyday life and inspire curiosity to learn about the world every day.

In 2027, Kaunas plans to organize more than 60 different events – from science festivals, creative workshops and interactive exhibitions to discussions, educational activities in schools and meetings with scientists. The project program will be implemented throughout the city: in schools, libraries, universities, cultural institutions, public spaces and, of course, on the Science Island. Every Kaunas resident and city guest will have the opportunity to discover science in the form that is closest to them and most interesting.

Perhaps the most important part of this initiative is the active involvement of organizations, institutions and communities operating in Kaunas. Educational, scientific, cultural, business and non-governmental organizations are invited to join the program, which will be able to offer their activities, become event partners, share ideas, knowledge or spaces. This is an opportunity not only to contribute to the city’s unique program, but also to jointly create new, inspiring experiences that help present science in unexpected and most attractive ways.

This initiative aims to strengthen the image of Kaunas as a city of science, innovation and knowledge, to promote public interest in science and to create long-term cooperation between city institutions, organizations and residents. 2027 is the year when science will become visible throughout the city – open, inclusive and accessible to everyone. Therefore, we encourage all Kaunas institutions, organizations and initiatives to become part of Science Comes to Town 2027 and to include science themes in planned or new activities and events. This is an invaluable opportunity to tell the whole of Europe about yourself.
