Human. Nature. Machine
Permanent
The centre’s theme, Human–Nature–Machine, has been central to its concept since its inception in 2015 and was developed with input from Lithuania’s three major universities:
Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (human)
Vytautas Magnus University (nature)
Kaunas University of Technology (machine)
The exhibition explores seven key topics: the human body and health, food, nature and the environment, waste and pollution, energy, transport, and communication.
An additional interactive element designed with pre-schoolers in mind ties all the topics together.
The journey begins with hands-on activities, asking questions like:
Why do apples fall to the ground?
Why do hot air balloons rise?
Why do cars roll rather than slide?
Next, the exhibition dives deeper into scientific advancements, from health innovations to sustainable energy solutions and digital technologies that improve our lives.
The final section examines the ethics of science, posing questions such as:
How many artificial body parts can replace natural ones before a person becomes a robot?
How can we balance the desire for longevity with limited resources and quality of life?
Who is responsible for an accident involving a self-driving car?
Interactive exhibits encourage you to make decisions. Each choice lights up the central installation, the Island’s Heart, symbolizing how individual decisions shape our collective environment.
In other words, the Island’s Heart is the exhibition’s culmination, weaving your personal experiences into a shared narrative.
